Dr Farías is a Physicist from Monterrey Institute of Technology, Mexico. He holds a Phd from Imperial College, University of London, UK

Early in his career, he  worked for the steel industry in Mexico for 10 years as Researcher and Technology Manager.

In 1991 he moved to CEMEX where he has developed  and implemented the global Energy and Sustainability strategy.

He currently serves on several Boards and Councils:
- President of the Board, Sustainability Commission, CCE, Mexico
- President of the Board, Environmental Protection Institute, CAINTRA NL
- Member, WEF Global Agenda Council on Climate Change
- Member of the Board, Monterrey Institute of Technology School of Engineering

- Member, Oxford Energy Policy Club
